Red Back Spiders – Found in Alvorada 3

Hi all,
Just wanted to inform you all that my wife and I found 2 x Red Back spiders in the garden last week. In Alvorada 3. We were aware that there were some over the road in the other development, but until now there was not any reports in Alvorada.

Anyway, if you cal Emaar Pest Control Chap called Ahmad (Lovely chap) he can sort for you. 050 8469233. They came over this morning and fond 4 egg sacks and one Red Back and disposed of them.

Some useful info for you to know.
– Not a single person has died from a redback bite since 1956 (When the antivenom was established)
– the UAE hospitals stock the antivenom
– If anyone gets bitten then place ice on the wound and get to the doctors/hospital

Where they hide?
– In dark, warm areas such as garages, old tyres, under your water tanks outside (Where we found some) and ESPECIALLY under outdoor furniture. They love that Rattan furniture many people have so make sure you clean furnite and dusty areas every week.

What there webs look like?
I am sure you all know what the spider look like. Small, black, with red stripe on the back, two long front legs and back legs. The larger ones…around 5cm long are the females. They can lay up to 500 eggs.
The webs are quite THICK and dissorganised webs and may contain small egg sacks.
Interesting fact…they spread their young on small thin strands of web and let the wind carry them to other areas.

Most at risk are young kids, the elderly and pets.
